Before an exam

  • Evaluate person's rules knowledge
  • Get to know his/her background

Create an exam

On this page the process how to create a judge test in DCIX is outlined.

The first step is to login to DCIX with your DCI number and your DCI password. Select the tab "exams" and either "create" a new test or "select" an existing one.

Types of Tests

Choose the game you want to create the test for and select the language the test should be in (note: not all tests are available in all languages; normally practice, rules advisor, L1 and L2 tests are available in all languages).

Depending on your judge level (and role) there are various tests available:

Test Description Available for Wait time to retest Size Rules Size Policy Size total
Easy Practice Practice test with easy questions. Roughly equivalent to L1 exam. All Levels none 10 2 12
Hard Practice Practice test with more difficult questions. Roughly equivalent to L2 exam. All Levels none 10 2 12
Policy Practice Practice test with questions about MIPG and other policy documents. All Levels none 0 10 10
Rules Advisor Test to reach "Rules Advisor". All Levels 2 weeks (double after each fail) 25 0 25
Level 1 Practice Practice test to prepare for the Level 1 exam. Rules Advisor 2 months 14 6 20
Level 1 Test to reach Level 1. Level 2+ 2 months 18 7 25
Level 2 Practice Practice test to prepare for the Level 2 exam. Level 1+ 2 months 15 5 20
Level 2 Test to reach Level 2. Level 3+ 2 months 35 15 50
Level 3 Practice Practice test to prepare for the Level 3 exam. Level 2+ 3 months 17 8 25
L3A Level 3 test version A. Level 4+ n/a
L3B Level 3 test version B. Level 4+ n/a

Select the Candidate

A test can either be created for yourself or for a different person. If the test is created for another person, the creator can see the answers if the test is taken online (for some tests there are the options "paper" and "online"). Creating a test for another person is useful for training purposes. For this option the use of the DCI number is recommended as there are many people with the same name, so searching by name is not a good option.

There's also the option to generate "generic" paper exams, which is not recommended if the name of the candidate is known.

Print the Test

Print the test if you chose the option "paper". It is recommended to print two pages on one sheet to save paper. The file "answer sheet" also needs to be printed, the candidate marks his/her answers there. Various answer keys are available ranging from a sheet where only the correct answers are marked up to a full explanation of every question and answer.

Known issue with Firefox:

Currently (July 2011) the tests can't be printed with any version of Firefox (Chrome, Internet Explorer work fine). There's a work around:

  • Save the webpage as a file
  • Open the html in wordpad/notepad
  • Find this line: <span id="_ucExamGrid_QuestionsDataList" style="display:inline-block;width:95%;"><span class="examgriditem">
  • Change it to this: <span id="_ucExamGrid_QuestionsDataList"><span class="examgriditem">
  • Save the file
  • Open it with Firefox and print

Enter the Results (Paper tests only)

When the candidate is done with his/her test, enter all the answers, double check and go through the answers together with the candidate.

Feedback on Questions

If there are any issues with questions and answers (too hard, too easy, unsuited for a given test, outdated, ...) please contact Brian Schenck.

After an exam

  1. Discuss questions which a judgling has found difficult or interesting
  2. Discuss questions with incorrect results
  3. Tell the score
  4. Congratulate or explain that it's simply an opportunity for more learning
  5. Explain the procedure of leveling, inform about dcifamily.org, this wiki and judge list
  6. Make a photo of a judge in a shirt
