Information for Volunteers

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a web based platform allows you to send short (142 characters max.) text messages (called "tweets") to a broad audience. Users can then subscribe (“follow”) your messages and even respond.
Additionally, you can mark messages with a “hash tag” to allow messages of a related topic to be grouped together. We typically use hash tags for large events such as Grands Prix and Pro Tours, so that people can easily find those tweets.
Example Hash Tags: #GPDFW for Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth or #GPBCN for Grand Prix Barcelona.

What's "MagicJudges"?

The account "MagicJudges" was created near the end of 2009 and is used to inform the audience about the judges' point of view at big events like GPs, PTs and National Championships. Since these events are worldwide events, we solicit volunteers from the judge staff list to tweet.

What do we post?

Everything that's interesting from the judges' point of view. Information about interesting situations, weird rulings, promotions, current state of the tournament, incredible penmanship on a decklist, or after event parties.
We do not report about players (except when they are involved in interesting situations). The idea is to publish the judges' point of view of the event.

Instructions for Volunteers

  1. Get the account Name and current password from either Bryan Prillaman or Stefan Ladstaetter
  2. Make sure you have a way to tweet from the event: laptop/smart phone/chargers/etc.
  3. Be sure to include the events Hashtag in EVERY post. The hashtag normally evolves a few days before the event.
  4. Twitter also offers the options to upload pictures to "http://twitpic.com/" (the login is the same as to Twitter) and create links to "tweet". Feel free to use this if you find something interesting.
  5. You may recruit others on-site to assist if you find you do not have enough time.
  6. You may include your name/nickname at the beginning of the post in parenthesis
  7. Please use the following format for tweets, but if the mood strikes you, you may deviate.
